Games Tester


We are looking for Game Testers to help find, test, and curate games for our HTML5 gaming platform.

 

As a Game Tester, you will:

  • Discover and evaluate new games: Research and identify engaging, well-designed HTML5 games that fit our platform.
  • Playtest selected games: Assess gameplay, mechanics, performance, and overall quality.
  • Identify and report bugs: Document and report any technical issues, glitches, or inconsistencies.
  • Balance and usability testing: Ensure that games are fun, fair, and user-friendly across different devices and browsers.
  • Provide structured feedback: Write detailed reports and communicate findings with the website upload team.

 

Work Arrangement & Compensation

  • Remote-first role with occasional office time in London.
  • Part-time: 16 hours per week.
  • £14 per hour.

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Passion for video games and an eye for what makes a game fun and engaging.
  • Familiarity with HTML5 games and browser-based gaming experiences.
  • Experience in game testing, quality assurance or curation is a plus.

 

Additional Requirements

  • Understanding of AI-generated content in gaming (a plus but not required).

Lead Game Developer


We are looking for a Lead Developer to guide the development of new titles and help shape the technical direction of our studio.


As a Lead Developer, you will:

  • Drive game development from prototype to production across a range of mobile and web-based titles.
  • Lead and mentor developers: Support junior team members, review code, and encourage best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with design, art, and production teams to bring ideas to life.
  • Make smart tech decisions: Choose the right tools, frameworks, and pipelines to keep our games smooth, scalable, and fun.
  • Solve technical challenges: Optimise performance, implement gameplay features, and ensure cross-platform compatibility.
  • Help shape the future of Playback’s engine and development workflows.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and game frameworks (e.g. Phaser, Babylon.js, Unity with WebGL).
  • Comfortable working in small, cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience building and launching games, ideally on mobile or web.
  • Familiarity with version control, debugging tools, and performance optimisation.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience leading projects or managing small dev teams.
  • Understanding of HTML5 performance constraints.
  • Interest in AI-assisted tools or procedural workflows.
